SoLA is a community-owned cooperative building a healthier, more equitable South Los Angeles through collective access to fresh food, education, and collective ownership. Founded by local leader Bahni Turpin and 738 member-owner households and counting, SoLA Food Cooperative is bringing a community-owned, organic grocery store to Crenshaw. Fresh, affordable food belongs right here in our neighborhood.

For decades, access to healthy, affordable food in South Los Angeles has been dictated by corporate food systems. SoLA was born from our community’s long history of local organizing and our determination to bring justice to our food systems. We are a grassroots movement that centers healthy food as a building block for community equity, generational health, and local empowerment.

While our programs and workshops nourish South LA today, we are actively executing our 2026 strategic roadmap to build a sustainable, community-owned grocery store in the Crenshaw District. Reaching 1,200 member-owner households unlocks full financing to begin store buildout on Crenshaw. Every new owner brings us one step closer to opening our doors.
