Bringing Fresh, Healthy Food to South LA
We’re opening a community owned grocery store in South LA to increase access to natural, organic foods for our community.
In 2011, several residents of South LA came together fed up with closing grocery stores and lack of healthier food options in the community. They strategized and then galvanized other neighbors to create a community-owned grocery store that serves our own needs without corporate influence. SoLA Food Co-op was born.
We are currently in stage 3 of our co-op development timeline, and SoLA is moving forward with plans to capitalize and select a site for our store. We are projected to open our doors within 24 to 36 months.
We are currently at 735 owners!
South LA has long been a federally recognized food desert, with more availability of fast food than organic , natural and clean conventional foods. As a result our community suffers from a higher rate of food related illness than other parts of Los Angeles. Join SoLA and become part of the food desert solution.
